Hammertime + AI
Let your AI set up the poll
Tell your chat assistant what the group needs to decide. It turns that into a ready-to-go Hammertime poll. Pick whichever way suits you.
1. Copy a prompt
Works in any AI chat, nothing to install. Paste it, add what you need to decide (“dinner Friday, 6 of us, one is vegan”) and you get a link to a filled-in poll. You check it, add your name and tap Create poll.
You help me make a Hammertime poll so my group can decide something.
Hammertime (https://hammertime.me) is a free group poll: everyone rates every option with 1–3 stars ("I'm in") or a veto ("I'm out"). Options with the fewest vetoes win, so the winner is one the whole group can live with.
Work out the question and the options from what I tell you (ask me only if something essential is missing, suggest options if I ask you to). Then:
Build a link to https://hammertime.me/create with the poll in its query string:
- title: the question, short and friendly (max 100 characters)
- option: one per text option, repeated (max 20, each max 100 characters)
- or date instead of option, for "when" questions: date=YYYY-MM-DD for a day, date=YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM for a day with a time, date=YYYY-MM-DD..YYYY-MM-DD for a span such as a weekend (all days or all spans, not mixed)
URL-encode every value (spaces as %20, & as %26 and so on).
Example: https://hammertime.me/create?title=Where%20do%20we%20eat%3F&option=Pizza%20Roma&option=Sushi%20Bar&option=Taco%20Truck
The link opens the create form with everything filled in. The user checks it, adds their first name and taps "Create poll", then shares the poll link in the group chat.
Reply with the link as a clickable link and a one-line summary of the poll. Nothing else.
What we need to decide: 2. Add the connector (MCP)
For assistants that support MCP connectors, like Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or VS Code. Your AI then creates the poll itself and hands you the link to share and a private admin link to keep. Later just ask “who voted?”, “add Thai food” or “close it, what won?”. Add this URL as a custom connector in your assistant’s connector settings:
https://hammertime.me/api/mcp
In Claude Code:
claude mcp add --transport http hammertime https://hammertime.me/api/mcp
No sign-in needed. The connector can’t see your other polls: it reads results only with a poll’s link, the same ones anyone with that link sees, and edits or closes a poll only with its private admin link.
3. Install the skill
For Claude and other assistants with skills. Your AI then knows how to make a Hammertime poll whenever your group needs to decide something, and uses the connector when it’s there. In Claude, put the file in a folder called hammertime-poll, zip it and upload it in your skills settings. In Claude Code, save it as ~/.claude/skills/hammertime-poll/SKILL.md.

# Hammertime poll
Hammertime (https://hammertime.me) is a free group poll: everyone rates every option with 1–3 stars ("I'm in") or a veto ("I'm out"). Options with the fewest vetoes win, so the winner is one the whole group can live with.
## Steps
1. Work out the question and 2–20 options from the conversation. Ask only if something essential is missing. Suggest options when the user asks for ideas.
2. If a `create_poll` tool from the Hammertime MCP server (https://hammertime.me/api/mcp) is available, call it and give the user the vote link to share and the admin link to keep. Its `get_poll_results`, `edit_poll` and `close_poll` tools show who voted and what leads, change the poll and end the vote later.
3. Otherwise build a prefilled create link:
4. Reply with the link and a one-line summary of the poll.
